We reproof (water proof items) - Not many rugs are guaranteed 100% waterproof and all rugs will probably loose their water repellency over time, and the older they become the less efficient. Lets face it these rugs get a pretty savage beating from our hash elements and the punishment that our horses dish out.
In wet or damp conditions your horse will get clammy, uncomfortable and cold if the ability of the rug to breathe is impaired. To keep your horse warm and dry it is important to regularly clean and re-proof your animal rug in order to maintain its water repellency and ability to breathe.
A durable water repellent coating is applied by manufacturers to horse rug. If the fabric surface is dirty, the dirt attracts and holds water, known as wetting out. When the fabric is saturated, sweat and moisture will not be able to escape, which will reduce its insulating qualities and ability to breathe
- Synthetic waterproof rugs (please let us know if the rug has previously been heat proofed)
- Canvas rugs
- Canvas swags
We use products specifically made for the care of horse rugs. General household detergents are not suitable for horse rugs as they can damage water proofing and possibly irritate skin.
